Some 300 movies will be shown during the 18th Lima Film Festival (Festival de Cine de Lima), which will take place from August 8 to 16. Organizers say this year’s program is “attractive” and “well-balanced.”
“We’re presenting a lineup that takes from the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlinale, and some revelations from the International Independent Film Festival of Buenos Aires,” said Edgar Saba, the event’s director, at a press conference.
The festival’s goal is to help “Perú to form part of the world, and for the world to form part of Perú, through cinema.”
Among the guests invited to this edition are French director Bruno Dumont and American actor Chaske Spence, who is primarily known for his work in the “Twilight” movies.
The festival will show 19 fictional movies in competition, as well as 12 competing in the documentary category. There is also the “Multiple Viewpoints” category, in which 13 works of contemporary cinema will be shown, and the “Around the World in Eight Days” category, where 14 films will take part.
In the fiction competition are movies such as Relatos Salvajes, from Damián Szifron (Argentina-España); Jauja, by Lisandro Alonso (Argentina, Francia, México); Refugiados, by Diego Lerman (Argentina-Polonia-Colombia); Viejos amigos, from Fernando Villarán (Peru), and Tierra en la lengua, by Rubén Mendoza (Colombia).
The festival’s organizers have also put together a free traveling cinema exhibition that will go to 30 different cities around Perú.
In Lima, the movies will be shown outdoors in the Plaza de Armas in the historical center of Lima, as well as in parks in six different Lima districts.
