CONFERENCE

Scholars, media theoreticians, journalists and artists will explore irony in Media Art in their keynote lectures at the festival conference. This approach has increasingly evolved as an artistic strategy, particularly with the advent of the so-called new media. It additionally embracescontemplating current economic, political and social conditions. In this connection, the speakers will also refer to contemporary debates, and broach the issue of the development and context of ironic and witty presentations in the Middle East.

In den Vorträgen der Konferenz des Festivals werden sich Wissenschaftler, Medientheoretiker, Journalisten und Künstler mit der Ironie in der Medienkunst und deren subversiven Interventionen auseinandersetzen.

Ironische Interventionen und die kleinen und großen Rebellionen in der Medienkunst sind in diesem Jahr Thema des 28. European Media Art Festival in Osnabrück, das vom 22. bis 26. April 2015 stattfindet, in der begleitenden Ausstellung bis zum 25. Mai 2015. Die Organisatoren:

Osnabrück. Am 22. April startet das EMAF 2015. Bis zum 26. April zeigt das Festival in Ausstellung, Filmen und Performances den Stand der Dinge in Sachen experimenteller Medienkunst. Thema in diesem Jahr: Ironie.

Performance and Textiles are two strands of artistic practice that rarely meet, yet here they become entwined in a manner that seeks not only to return textiles to its rightful place in the orbit of contemporary art, but also to showcase the conceptual and communicational potential of the medium.

La campaña intenta desmarcar el cine latinoamericano de ideas preconcebidas, tópicos y clichés, que no son reales, pero que muchos espectadores asocian cuando piensan en cine latino.

The Festival Miden presents the program “Can One Mistake Reality for Reality?” at Loannina, Greece, in the frame of the art project Gradient:
From Gray to Color Scale.

The project will take place at Ioannina urban spaces from 3 to 11 of July 2014. The Festival Miden’s screening is scheduled Sunday 6 of July, 21.30 at Papazoglou street.

The program is curated by Gioula Papadopoulou and was initially presented in Now&After events last year at Moscow Museum of Modern Art.

The video-installations is a analysis of cultural use of gestural interfaces on everyday devices of communication (iphones). Patrons will be able to move the video projection with the motion of their hand over the sensor and changing the video on the projection using gestural forms.

Kalopsia is a Contemporary Textiles Collective based in the UK. Kalopsia brings attention to this field and open up the debate on “What is Textiles”.
Biografie
Textiles is one of the first historical forms of art, but has today, often a lot of negative connotations. Some might think only of quilts and curtains which, yes it is, but it is also so much more than that. We at Kalopsia want to change this and show the diversity of the medium, in all its forms.

“Textiles came to mean more to me than the initial, functional purpose that I had first understood it to signify. Textiles have become an important tool and an integral part of expression.” – Kate Bell

Im Frühjahr 2012, entstand durch Vermittlung der benachbarten Ateliergemeinschaft 2025 e.V. das Vorhaben, das ehemalige 1000 Töpfe-Verwaltungsgebäude (früher Teppichfabrik Bahrenfeld) in ein Atelierhaus zu verwandeln. Eine zehnköpfige Gruppe von KünstlerInnen brachte die Sache ins Rollen: Es folgten viele Monate der Planung, Verhandlungen, Kalkulationen und Umbauten.

Der Kunstverein zu Rostock hatte im vergangenen Jahr die Möglichkeit, sich in der Galerie Genscher in Hamburg, Marktstraße 138 zu präsentieren. Nun freuen wir uns auf den Gegenbesuch. Die Galerie Genscher wird mit der Ausstellung Selbwala Beast vom 20.- 27. September in Rostock zu Gast sein.

Es stellen aus:

am Mittwoch, den 28. August 2013 um 20:20h pünktlich zum Sonnenuntergang eröffnet die Galerie Genscher in der Laeiszstrasse 18 zusammen mit der Künstlergruppe „We Are Visual“ das “Galerie Genscher Plateau”.

Von diesem Abend an wird es nächtelang bis Sonnenaufgang ein freies Filmprogramm zu sehen geben auf dem Plateau, einer von „We Are Visual“ errichteten Projektionsfläche.

The 3rd edition of Sheffield Fringe considers the critical possibilities of film as both documentary and art. Festival Miden participates in FONLAD 2013 events (festival of digital arts, Coimbra, Portugal) presenting a screening program entitled “After walk”, curated by Maria Bourika. 6 works selected from the screening program of Video Art Festival Miden 2012, give us an idea of the diversity and development of performative video art today. The presentation will take place at “Space For Arts, Media & Performance” on May 4.

It is the third edition of the International Video Art Festival “Now & After”. This time the show is called “Between Image and Personality”. Videos of 41 artists from 16 countries will be shown in the festival program. “Now & After’13” focuses its attention on a person.

Festival Miden screenings at Takis Katsoulidis Engraving Museum, Messini, GR

Festival Miden, the Video Art Festival of Kalamata, presents the screening program CONFETISH at the Takis Katsoulidis Engraving Museum in Messini (a city near Kalamata) from 15 to 24 of March 2013.

The program presents 9 videos from Greece, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Hungary, Germany and USA – a selection from 2008, ’10, ’11 and ’12 editions of Festival Miden. The program is curated by Margarita Stavraki while Maria Bourika curates the presentation in Katsoulidis Museum.

Amid hard and overall decadence and despite economic difficulties, Festival Miden vividly returns at the Historic Centre of Kalamata to present its new program of contemporary videoart. Restless voices from all over the world will be there via their creations to share with us drastic images full of dreams, aspirations, concerns and fears, opening a window from where we could possibly draw strength and optimism.

This year our slogan is: “Water Tower Art Fest follows the White Rabbit” as a sign of our never-ending curiosity for whatever comes our way. “Alice in Wonderland” embraces the space, where everything is possible as long as you are able to imagine it. Alice wanders through various ideas of worlds, meeting talking animals, flowers and people, who seem to irradiate onto their surroundings and modify them appropriate to their comfort. In Wonderland, it is not society which moulds imagination, but imagination, which moulds society.

Während der Vorweihnachtszeit verengt sich für gewöhnlich das Wahrnehmungsfeld der meisten Menschen in unseren Breitengraden und stimmt sich mit Glühwein, Lichterketten, Lebkuchen und Geschenke Einkauf auf die etwas dunklere und so genannt besinnliche Zeit des Jahresendes ein.

WATCH IT! is produced in association with the New Media Caucus of the College Art Association (CAA) and the School of Visual Arts (SOVA) at Virginia Tech (VT). The video art showcase has been curated by advanced video students from SOVA under the supervision of Dr. Simone Paterson, Associate Professor of New Media Art and Chair of the Studio program at VT.

B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Beamer) is a one-night visual exposition inviting video and projection artists to explore the blank canvas of the White Box’s walls.

The exposition, open to everyone, encourages artists to bring a beamer and simply plug-in.

The event will feature single channel and interactive work from Portland-based emerging video artists, students, and curated selections from international artists courtesy of(Sub)Urban Projections.

For those who won’t be projecting, come by and enjoy the display!
