Imagine a parallel universe made up of various worlds (arranged) in layers. Intermix them with textiles, a masked presence, and rely on your only guide, a donkey. Ahistorical, ambiguous, symbolic, Leyla Rodriguez is the creator of this universe beyond depiction. Recurring motifs inhabit her work: the relationship between culture, identity and continuity, home and its absence, families, and the amazement of nature’s ephemeral fixity. A blend of mixed elements generating a whirlwind of possible interpretations and meanings. Within these free-flowing parallel structures, Rodriguez stages herself incorporating a masked character. A hybrid presence between human, beast, and textile.
Recordis, a sound piece composed of the artist’s family recordings, remixed with the soundtrack of Celluloid Dream Path, a compilation of her short films that preceded the creation of her latest short Waldhorn: in the space of one screening, these three works will be projected in the unique setting of the Bellevaux cinema. The imaginary and the real collide in Leyla Rodriguez’s infinite loop of wonders, in which animals, very often dogs or donkeys, are our only guides towards the comet of transformation. Repeat.
