WALDHORN by Leyla Rodriguez @ the Odds & Ends Experimental Film Festival, Charlottesville, Virginia/ LOCATION: Vinegar Hill Theatre, 220 W Market Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902/ U.S.A.
Odds and Ends is an experimental film festival located in Charlottesville, Virginia. The festival will hold its inaugural screening on April 29th, 2023 at the Vinegar Hill Theatre and will be presented by Light House Studio.
We seek films and videos that push formal and conceptual boundaries, allowing for multiple ways of understanding and interpretation. Our aim is to celebrate a diverse range of films that work across modes and genres, addressing the materiality of the medium from poetic, personal, or political perspectives. We welcome everyone, especially innovative works by emerging filmmakers that work outside of commercial structures.
Many of the films delve into the non-human, exploring the subjectivity of plants and flowers, fish and dogs. Some even allow you to listen to the language of trees, or imagine a world in which extinct deer inhabit luxury hotels. The program also features films that explore gesture and place, through the context of a queer soundwalk, performance, care, and everyday routine. The films often present grounded reality through the uncanny or unusual, speculating a future in which the internet has died, conveying the embodied experience of a health scare, or exploring a car through feet and toes. The 23 films in this program are made by filmmakers from all over the world, including New Zealand, Sweden, Iran, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Canada, and the United States. We hope you enjoy!
